Project brief

TexWorked for 22s Mechanism Description This is a compact cylindrical cam-and-follower linear motion mechanism, designed and assembled in SOLIDWORKS and manufactured using FDM 3D printing. The mechanism converts the rotary motion of the cylindrical barrel cam into controlled linear movement of the upper carriage. A follower pin attached to the carriage engages with the profiled groove on the rotating cam. As the cam is turned manually, the groove guides the follower along a predetermined path, causing the carriage to travel back and forth. Two parallel steel guide rods support the carriage, prevent unwanted rotation, and maintain accurate linear alignment. The camshaft is supported at both ends by bearings mounted in the printed frame, reducing friction and allowing smooth rotation. The prototype demonstrates: Conversion of rotary motion into reciprocating linear motion Motion control through a custom-designed cam profile Integration of 3D-printed parts with steel guide rods and bearings Design for assembly, alignment, and additive manufacturing Practical validation of a SOLIDWORKS motion concept through physical prototyping The cam groove can be modified to produce different displacement patterns, stroke lengths, dwell periods, speeds, and acceleration characteristics. This principle can be applied to automated feeders, indexing devices, packaging machinery, dispensing systems, and other compact automation mechanisms.t to be Displayed Here!
